- Drink a lot - water or calorie-free beverages. People often times confuse being thirsty with being hungry. That is why you often end eating extra calories, when what you actually needed is just a cold glass of water.
- Think of what may add to your diet and not what you have to take away. Diet does not mean skipping meals; in fact you have to be eating more than 3 meals a day. Surprised? Well, it is true but the thing is you eat in smaller portions and make sure also that you eat the recommended 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day divided into 4-5 meals.
- Eat when you are really hungry. If you feel like eating, look for certain physical signs that will tell that you are indeed hungry. Because hunger is actually your body's way of telling you that it needs fuel and thereby causing you to crave for food, but if craving does not come from hunger then you will never feel satisfied of eating.
- Choose what you eat at nighttime. We often love to munch on something when we are in front of the television or computer. We eat chips and cookies, which is what you call mindless eating. We eat not because we are hungry but just out of a habit.
It is hard to avoid when you have gotten used to it, so what you can do is to choose what you much on. Instead of junk foods and cookies, try some low-calorie snack or better yet some salads or veggies. Maybe you can have carrots or cucumber instead of chips, I mean after all you just want the feel of chewing on something while watching television, so make sure you are eating healthy.
